The Givat Sharett Chesed Committee (GSCC) was established in 1992 to instill a communal feeling in the Givat Sharett neighborhood of Beit Shemesh, honoring the value that all Jews are responsible for one another. The Chesed Committee is concerned for the well-being of all neighborhood residents, providing practical support in times of need, and delivering financial aid to impoverished individuals and families across the city of Beit Shemesh.

Beit Shemesh is home to thousands of olim (new immigrants). Our organization reaches out to these olim and other newcomers, lending a helping hand, welcoming them into the community, and sometimes easing a difficult financial situation.

In addition, The Chesed Committee established a Simcha Gemach to guide families making a wedding. The Gemach includes The Wedding Guide – everything you need to know about making a wedding in Israel – as well as beautiful, illustrated Sheva Brachot cards, tefillah for the chatan and kallah, their mothers, and guests to recite on behalf of the new couple. The Gemach also provides baskets of useful items for the simcha hall.

The GSCC formed a Shiva Committee to support Givat Sharett residents, during a very difficult time in their lives, by providing essential equipment and meals during the shiva period.

Since the beginning of the war, embracing the spirit of “Acheinu Kol Beit Yisrael,” The Chesed Committee provides soldiers with tactical gear and financial support, helps the wives and families of miluimnikim, supports businesses affected by the war, and more, all to ease the burden for these incredible giborim.
